Week 6 Update August 11, 2008

Time is flying by! I am down 5.5 pounds this week! My total lost so far is 38 pounds.  My pants are all getting way too big on me.  Luckily I have some smaller clothes stowed away in my closest so I don’t have to constantly buy clothes…at least for now!

 
 

Week 5 Update August 5, 2008

Everything has pretty much gone well since my surgery.  Although, I have gotten sick again…throwing up sick.  Which sucks, but it’s better than the sharp pains I was getting before.  Last time I got sick was on Sunday.  We went to Wahoo’s Fish Taco (I think it’s funny that it’s just “Taco” and not Tacos because you never have just one) for lunch.  I got a couple of grilled fish tacos.  I figured I could eat the fish out of one for lunch and save the other fish for dinner.  I didn’t even get through half a piece of fish when I started to get a stomach ache.  I’m thinking it was either too dry or my stomach didn’t like the spices.  At least I was able to make it home in time!!  And I’m glad that once I throw up I feel 100% better.

I’ve still been having a hard time getting all my protein in and lately I’ve been slacking on my protein shakes.  It seems like if I don’t drink my shake frist thing in the morning I don’t drink it at all.  Bad Michelley!

OK, onto the good stuff…I was down 3.5 pounds this week!  I am super happy about that.  I even had to go buy a new pair of pants to wear with my suit for an interview I had today.  That was a good feeling.  However, spending money on things I know aren’t going to fit in a month is a little annoying.  But I can’t complain about my 32.5 pound victory so far!

I’m not sure if this is just me, so if you’ve had RNY and are reading this let me know what you think.  When I wake up first thing in the morning it seems like I can’t drink water.  Even after just a few tiny sips my stomach starts rumbling.  I’ve had a problem with water in general lately anyways, which frustrates me because before surgery I chugged water like it was going out of style.  For some reason I can drink plenty of crystal light, flavored water or tea with no problem, but when I have water my stomach seems to get full really fast.  I honestly don’t know what it is!

No excuse me…Matt is freaking out because I made “healthy” pasta (Barilla Plus) for his dinner.  And heaven forbid he like something that tastes healthy.

Blood Work Update July 30, 2008

My blood work came back perfect except my magnesium level was low, so my doctor suggested that I start taking 200mg of magnesium per day.  And I am not Anemic!

 
 

Week 4 Update July 28, 2008

I wanted to drop by and post my weekly update.  I am down another 4 pounds this week for a grand total of 29 pounds lost!  I had an appointment with my primary doctor this morning and she said everything was looking good.  Although, she mentioned that I may be Anemic.  I had a slew of blood work done as part of my regular check up, so I will find out in a few days if in fact I am Anemic.

 
 

Food and Drink Intake July 24, 2008

I received a request from BrownieGirl to post my daily food/drink intake.  I will post what I had yesterday as an example of what I’m eating.  I know I’m not getting enough protein in yet, but once my food list expands that will come.

Breakfast: 8 oz Protein Shake
Lunch: 1/2 Egg Scrambled, 1/4 oz Shredded Cheddar
Snack: Sugar Free All Fruit Popsicle
Dinner: 1/2 oz Cheddar Cheese
Snack: 2 Sugar Free Fudgesicles (probably should of only had 1)

I also get in about 35 ounces of water/tea/crystal light per day.  Sometimes more, sometimes less.

I keep a food log on SparkPeople…if you go to my SparkPage you will see a button called “View My Food Log” on the right side of the page.  Click that and you can click through my daily logs.

 
 

Week 3 Update July 21, 2008

Just a quick update to say that I was down another 4 pounds this morning!  Things are going well and I’m feeling pretty much back to normal.  I tried having shrimp again on Saturday night and I started to have pains.  I really think the issue is me not chewing well enough.  I need to work on it!  Starting next Monday I will be able to have melons, cooked vegetables, fish and leafy greens.  That will be nice and I am looking forward to it!!  Well, that’s all I have for now.  I hope everyone is doing well!!

 
 

Good Times July 18, 2008

I was totally going to do a video blog, but I looked in the mirror and decided that I looked like a giant turd today.  So, no video!

I know my official weigh in isn’t until Monday, but I wanted to mention that my weight has stayed the same since July 9th.  I understand that my body is adjusting and is probably a little freaked out.  But it would still be nice to loose a pound or two!

Yesterday I had my first scary moment while eating.  I picked up my friend, Patty, for lunch and I told her what my options were food-wise.  She suggested a sushi place.  My plan was to get miso soup and some shrimp sushi minus the rice.  So, I had about 2/3 of the miso soup broth (no tofu).  Then I had one shrimp and a bite of another one.  Suddenly I started to get this pain on my side.  It would come and go every minute or so.  It really felt like I needed to burp, but I couldn’t.   I ended up having to ditch Patty and go outside and sit in the car.  I felt really bad for Patty, but she was a good sport about it!  I really don’t think I ate too much.  I think I probably ate too fast and/or maybe didn’t chew enough.  I won’t make that mistake again!  The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes or so.

Later yesterday afternoon, I headed to Tracy’s to wish her good luck on her move.  On Saturday she’s moving to Las Vegas to live with her fiance.  We ended up going to dog beach in Huntington Beach.  Anton has a huge yellow lab named Frank that likes to play in the water.  Although, I’m not sure who had more fun Anton or Frank!  Then we walked down the pier to have Ruby’s for dinner.  Luckily they had cottage cheese for me!  And I didn’t get sick after eating this time!

 
 

SparkPeople July 16, 2008

I don’t think I mentioned this before, but I am keeping a food log on SparkPeople.  I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest website, but it’s doing it’s job and working for now.  Maybe I should post my food journal here instead?  I don’t know, I’m still trying to figure out what and where to blog about my WLS.  Any input would be greatly appreciated!

 
 

Week 2 Update July 14, 2008

So, I survived another week!  I’ve lost another 4 pounds since last week for a total of 21 pounds.  I’m not complaining!

I’ve really been enjoying my soft foods, although I’m not able to eat too much!  While we were out and about on Sunday we decided to stop by Pick Up Stix.  I figured I could get some egg drop soup, which I found out they don’t have.  But I did get the wonton soup, which is made with wontons (of course), shrimp, chicken, broccoli, mushrooms and water chestnuts.  For lunch I was able to eat 2 shrimp and half a mushroom, plus drink some broth.  I was so excited!  It’s nice to be able to have somewhat normal foods now.  I ate until I was full and it was perfect!
